The History Of Khulna District.

Khulna is the third- largest district in Bangladesh. There are verities types of people lives in Khulna. It is located under Khulna division.

The most popular river Rupsha flowing beside this city. Khulna is very ancient river port on the Rupsha river.  Mongla port the second largest sea port in Bnagladesh which is located in Khulna city. It is also known as industrial area. There are many kinds of jute industry are located in this city and Sundarban (World Largest Mangrove Forest) is also located in this district. The worlds famous Royal Bengal Tiger is pride for this district. Historical place Bagherhat Mosque, a world heritage site by UNESCO.

History:

Khulna was the ancient area of VANGA or SAMATATA. In the 12^th century, it came under the sena dynasty. It was the region of BALLAL Sena and formed Bagri division of Bengal. Jalalabad was the previous name of this district.

In the 14^th century Shamsuddin Firoz Shah, the first Muslim ruler of Khulna. Muslim community are increased during the period of Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah. As a result there are many mosque are established during this period. Khan Jahan Ali was the famous saint that time. He started to exercise the full rights of sovereignty and continue it till his death in 1459.

The city became a part of the Sultanate of Bangal when was the death of Khan Jahan Ali. At this time, the 16^th century, Vikramaditya one of the chief minister of Daud Khan Karrani, achieved southern Bangal now include in Khulna district. Then he established a sovereign regimen, which name Iswaripur, currently in Jessore district. Vikramaditya is the son of Propadittya who obtained this primness over the BARO-BHUYANS, which strong remarkable as southern Bangal.

Khulna has declared as a Pouroshava in 1884 and promote to a Municipal corporation in 1984. In 1990 has been declared as a City Corporation.

Under the Khulna division has been included 10 districts. Every district are included their own culture and history. There are many people are fighting always with the natural disaster. Their living style are not so high. They are very simple and their earning source only depends on agriculture.
